Hey there, travel enthusiasts and road warriors! If you’ve been navigating the roads of the Zamboanga Peninsula, we’ve got some exciting news for you. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is making significant strides in road infrastructure, bringing us all closer to smoother, quicker, and more enjoyable journeys. The latest buzz? The road connecting Zamboanga City to Zamboanga del Norte is now 82% complete! Yep, you heard that right.
The Curuan-Sibuco Road, stretching a whopping 33 kilometers, is part of the larger Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project (IGCMRSP). This ambitious project is funded through a loan agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project is in full swing, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the progress.
In a recent inspection report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain shared some fantastic updates. The project, contracted with Sino Road and Bridge Group Company Ltd. and M. Abubakar Construction and Engineering Inc., has already completed the Portland concrete cement paving of 30.80 kilometers. That’s like being almost at the finish line of a marathon!
But wait, there’s more. The project also includes two significant bridges, Curuan and Sibuco, which are integral parts of this new route. These bridges are not just any ordinary structures; they are pivotal in ensuring that the road can withstand the test of time and elements, providing a reliable connection for years to come.
Now, how do we ensure that everything stays on track? It’s all about hands-on management and regular inspections. Recently, on May 24, 2024, Senior Undersecretary Sadain, along with ADB Principal Country Specialist Alain Morel and other key stakeholders, conducted a thorough inspection of the Curuan-Sibuco Road Project. This hands-on approach is crucial in addressing any issues promptly and keeping the progress steady and smooth.
Moreover, Sadain held a meeting with all contractors and consultants involved in the ongoing road subprojects of the IGCMRSP in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Tawi-Tawi Province. The goal? To nip any operational issues in the bud and fast-track efforts to tackle longstanding infrastructure deficiencies, thereby promoting sustainable development. It’s all about teamwork and collaboration!
But the DPWH isn’t just stopping at the Curuan-Sibuco Road. Senior Undersecretary Sadain has laid down the law with concrete instructions to overcome challenges and ensure the timely completion of several other ongoing projects. Let’s take a quick tour:
1. **Guicam Bridge in Zamboanga Sibugay:** A 1.21-kilometer marvel that’s set to transform connectivity.
2. **R.T. Lim - Siocon Road:** Spanning 24 kilometers and featuring eight bridges, this project will link Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Norte.
3. **Siay-Gapol Road in Zamboanga Sibugay:** At 17.93 kilometers, this road is a key artery for travel and trade.
4. **Gutalac-Baliguian Alternative Road in Zamboanga del Norte:** Stretching 7.38 kilometers, this road offers a crucial alternative route.
5. **Bridges in Tawi-Tawi Province:** Including the Nalil-Sikkiat, Malassa-Lupa Pula, and Tongsinah-Paniongan bridges, these structures will significantly enhance local connectivity.
And let’s not forget to celebrate the milestones already achieved! In July 2023, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Secretary Bonoan inaugurated three core IGCMRSP projects completed by UPMO-RMC II. These include the Alicia-Malangas Road and Lutiman-Guicam-Olutanga Road in Zamboanga Sibugay, and the Tampilisan-Sandayong Road in Zamboanga del Norte. These completed projects have already made a huge difference, improving transportation and access for residents, and boosting economic activities in the region.
As we look ahead, the continued efforts of the DPWH and their commitment to efficient and effective progress are paving the way for a brighter future. With the Curuan-Sibuco Road nearing completion and other projects on the horizon, we can all look forward to smoother travels, better connectivity, and more vibrant communities.
So, buckle up and get ready for a smoother ride, folks. The roads in the Zamboanga Peninsula are getting a major upgrade, thanks to the relentless efforts of the DPWH and their partners. Here’s to better journeys and new adventures on the horizon!
