Mock Crash Chaos: Laguindingan Airport's Epic Drill to Save the Day!

COURTESY: Laguindingan International Airport

Hey folks, ever wondered what happens when an airport turns into a high-stakes movie set for disaster prep? Well, buckle up because Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) just pulled off an incredible full-scale emergency simulation exercise called "AERON2026" on April 17, 2026. As the country's tenth busiest gateway, operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) Airports, LIA showed off its dedication to safety and top-notch operations. This biennial event isn't just a checkbox for the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)—it's a real-deal stress test that sharpens everyone's skills.
Moreover, AERON stands for Airport Emergency Response Operations Network, and it screams strength, unity, and killer coordination to keep travelers safe. The team evaluated Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), medical rescue squads, and the whole Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). They simulated a wild scenario straight out of a thriller: Emergency Plan (EMPLAN) No. 1, featuring a mock Airbus A321-NEO in a hard landing crash right on the airport grounds. Primary responders from LIA teamed up with secondary ones from government units and private sectors under the Mutual Aid Emergency Agreement (MAEA). It was all about testing how smoothly everyone clicks in a crisis.
Diving into the Drill: From Fake Flames to Real Teamwork

Picture this: alarms blaring, firefighters rushing in, and medics triaging "victims" while the whole operation hums like a well-oiled machine. That's exactly what went down during AERON2026 in the General Aviation Area for staging and the Arrival Hall Area for treatment. The best part? Regular flights kept chugging along without a hitch, so passengers barely noticed the behind-the-scenes heroics. Engr. Ryan Ermac, LIA's General Manager, nailed it when he said, "Safety is not a static goal but a continuous practice." His team refined communication and response times, pulling in best practices from daily ops to make sure everyone acts as one seamless unit to save lives.
Additionally, Engr. Job B. De Jesus from CAAP Area 10 hyped up the joint effort, calling it a "testament to the strong synergy" between regulators and private partners. These drills evolve safety protocols to match global standards, beefing up the aviation industry's integrity. When everyone unites like this, it turns potential chaos into controlled excellence. LIA's proactive vibe ensures they're always ready, no matter what curveball comes their way.

Building a Bulletproof Future: Lessons and Lasting Impact

Now, let's talk wrap-up—because no great drill ends without a debrief. AERON2026 wrapped with a powerhouse review from airline buddies, CAAP, the Philippine Coast Guard Region 10, Office of Civil Defense Region 10, Bureau of Fire Protection Region 10, the Municipal government of Laguindingan, and the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental. This collaborative blueprint shows how public-private teamwork can skyrocket airport standards, making them tough economic powerhouses.

Furthermore, by nurturing this preparedness culture with regional partners, LIA keeps delivering positive transformations for a unified, high-quality travel experience across the Philippines. It proves disasters might be unpredictable, but LIA stays rock-solid as a secure gateway. If you're flying through Misamis Oriental anytime soon, rest easy knowing these folks have your back—drill by drill!
