Beginning Wednesday at the Del Monte Golf Club in Bukidnon, the ICTSI PGT Championship marks the commencement of a four-leg Mindanao swing within this nationwide series. This tournament not only showcases exceptional golfing skills but also serves as a critical stepping stone for junior golfers aiming for excellence in their sport.
As we delve deeper into this tournament, it is essential to highlight the various legs that make up this exciting series. Following the Del Monte leg, the competition will move to Pueblo de Oro from July 1 to 3, South Pacific from July 9 to 11, and finally, Apo Golf from July 14 to 16. Each venue offers unique challenges, pushing these young athletes to refine their skills and adaptability. The grand finale, the Elite Junior Finals, is scheduled from September 30 to October 3 at The Country Club in Laguna, where the best of the best will compete for ultimate glory.
Rising Stars: The Contenders
Among the competitors, notable figures are emerging in each category. Leading the boys’ 15-18 category is Mactan leg winner Alexis Nailga, who is poised to defend his title against formidable challengers such as Bukidnon's own Clement Ordeneza, last year’s Match Play Finals winner. Additionally, Visayas standouts like Nyito and Roman Tiongko from Cebu, along with Bacolod's Santi Asuncion, are also in the mix for the championship. Their dedication and skill demonstrate the bright future of Philippine golf.
In the girls’ division, Davao’s Precious Zaragosa, who finished as the runner-up in the Mactan leg, aims to seize victory against local talents like Zero Plete and Crista Minoza, as well as competitors from Cagayan de Oro and Davao. The depth of talent across all categories, including the boys’ and girls’ 11-14 and 7-10 divisions, promises an electrifying tournament. Young athletes such as Mactan winner Brittany Tamayo and Bukidnon’s Simon Apilat are eager to showcase their abilities and secure their place in the annals of junior golf history.
As the ICTSI PGT Championship unfolds, it not only serves as a platform for these young golfers but also fosters a sense of community and sportsmanship. The road to the Elite Junior Finals is paved with hard work, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence, ensuring that the future of golf in the Philippines remains bright and promising.
