Building Futures One Brick at a Time: Cagayan de Oro's School Scoop from the Latest LSB Powwow!

COURTESY: CIO

Hey folks, if you're anything like me, you get excited about community projects that actually make a difference for our kids. Well, buckle up because I just dove into the juicy details from a super important meeting in Cagayan de Oro City. On Thursday, May 7, the Local School Board (LSB) gathered in Conference Room 2 of the City Council to chat about some game-changing **UPDATES on the construction of school buildings**. They didn't hold back—everyone was there to push things forward for our youth.

Dr. Roy Angelo Gazo, the City Schools Division Superintendent, took the reins and presided over the whole shebang. Attendees included LSB chief Dr. Alicia Anghay and Councilor Moreno ‘Jing' Daba, who's heading up the 21st City Council’s education committee. Moreover, several City Hall department managers and staff joined in, making it a real team effort. They all listened intently as Engr. Joel Momongan from the City Engineering Office (CEO) rolled out those **UPDATES on the construction of school buildings**. He shared how the CEO is hustling to build and improve facilities, ensuring our schools get the upgrades they desperately need. It's inspiring to see such dedication in action!

Digging Deeper: Budget Boosts and Big-Picture Wins

Now, transitioning from the construction buzz, the LSB didn't stop at just updates—they tackled some forward-thinking items too. For instance, they discussed a request for additional appropriations to fold new projects into the Special Education Fund (SEF) Supplemental Budget No. 2 for Calendar Year 2026. This means more resources flowing toward educational goodies that will benefit kids across the city.

Under Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy's administration, these City Hall initiatives shine bright. They strengthen the Local School Board’s implementation of programs and projects that directly address the youth's educational needs. Additionally, by focusing on these efforts, the team is building a brighter tomorrow, one well-funded school at a time. If you're in Cagayan de Oro, keep an eye on this—it's all about empowering the next generation with top-notch learning spaces!

Limketkai Ladies Lead the Charge: Cousins Rewrite the Family Empire Script!

COURTESY: Limketkai Group

Hey folks, if you're from Cagayan de Oro or just love a good underdog story in the business world, buckle up. The Limketkai Group of Companies is shaking things up big time. They've just ushered in a new era of authentic leadership by appointing Bonita Limketkai as Chair of Limketkai & Sons Inc. and Cindy Limketkai as President. This Mindanao-based powerhouse, famous for the iconic Limketkai Mall, is now in the hands of these dynamic women. And get this—it's a total break from tradition. No more handing the reins only to male heirs. Instead, they're embracing diversity and innovation to propel the family enterprise forward.

Bonita, a philosophy and business school grad, built her chops founding ventures in Toronto, Shanghai, and New York before heading back home. She brings that entrepreneurial fire to the table. Meanwhile, Cindy, with her Management Honors from Ateneo de Manila and an MBA from Columbia Business School, dove into strategy at McKinsey & Company, tackling projects across Asia. She started her journey as a cashier at her grandfather's department store, learning retail from the ground up. These cousins-in-law aren't just qualified; they're the perfect combo of vision and precision. As Bonita puts it, "I create the vision and strategy. Cindy implements." And honestly, their banter sounds like the ultimate power duo—effortless, fun, and grounded in shared values like faith and community service.

From Retail Roots to Community Revolution: Bonita and Cindy's Bold Mall Makeover

Now, let's dive into how these trailblazers are reimagining the mall. Since taking the helm, Bonita and Cindy have disrupted the saturated retail scene with progressive moves that keep Limketkai as the first mover. They're transforming the beloved Ketkai from a simple shopping spot into a vibrant community hub—what Cindy calls a "true third space" where people actually want to hang out. For instance, new brands have flooded in, a modern dining hall just debuted, and they're zeroing in on food and recreation to amp up the fun.

But it's not all glitz; there's heart here too. Bonita, ever the mother at heart, talks about making the center her "new home" to clean, repair, and welcome guests like family. They emphasize serving the Kagayanons who built this 100-year legacy, starting with their grandfather's entrepreneurship and their fathers' drive. Bonita shares, "We aim to elevate the quality of life by supporting local entrepreneurs and pioneering innovative products." Cindy adds that execution hinges on people, blending data-driven decisions with grit from their humble beginnings—like Bonita scrubbing toilets overseas or Cindy mopping floors. Together, they're upholding their grandmother's teachings to love God, family, and community, ensuring the family business has real soul. This isn't just business; it's a commitment to what Limketkai means to everyone in Cagayan de Oro.

Bricks, Brains, and Breakthroughs: Cagayan de Oro's Bold Leap Toward Smarter Schools

COURTESY: PIA 10

Cagayan de Oro is shaking things up big time. Officials are rolling out fresh solutions to fix crowded classrooms and boost learning across Northern Mindanao.

Schools Division Superintendent Roy Angelo Gazo announced that the city will receive **231 new classrooms**. These additions tackle a shortage of 600 units, covering about one-third of the backlog. Moreover, the new buildings aim to end double-shift schedules and replace makeshift shelters in hinterland areas. As a result, students gain better spaces for focused learning.

Furthermore, DepEd pushes a **three-term school calendar** to balance academics and activities. Gazo explained, “Sa three-term system, may tiyak na panahon na nakalaan para sa tuloy-tuloy na pagkatuto.” Teachers and learners benefit from dedicated time for instruction and remediation, so everyone stays on track.

Heroes in the Classroom: Lifting Teachers and Learners Alike

Teachers drive real change, and DepEd knows it. The division supports them by reclassifying positions and promoting 1,200 educators to higher salary grades. Consequently, these promotions improve compensation and retirement benefits while motivating stronger performance.

In addition, the **Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program** helps students catch up in reading, math, and science. Meanwhile, the Computerization Program delivers laptops and smart TVs to high schools, enabling digital research and modern apps. Together, these moves create a brighter, more connected future for Cagayan de Oro kids.

Fuel Fury Fighters: Tricycle Heroes in Misamis Oriental Grab Quick Cash Boost!

COURTESY: PIA 10

Drivers in **MISAMIS ORIENTAL** finally caught a break. On April 8, a total of 2,371 tricycle operators and drivers received ₱5,000 each in cash assistance. The distribution happened in El Salvador City and Gingoog City under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

This payout formed part of a bigger regional rollout in Northern Mindanao to fight the effects of rising fuel prices on transport workers. Irene Mae Dosol Auxilio, information officer, said the assistance rolled out simultaneously across the region. “This is ₱5,000 cash assistance under the DSWD AICS program para ni siya sa abag-abag tungod sa pagtaas sa presyo sa krudo,” she explained.

Relief Hits Home for Struggling TODA Drivers

Beneficiaries were mainly members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA). Auxilio noted payouts covered eight cities in Region 10, including Cagayan de Oro, El Salvador City, and Gingoog City. Target numbers included 1,798 drivers in Gingoog and 884 in El Salvador, with actual recipients at 1,568 and 803 respectively. The program focused only on qualified folks to keep things orderly.

Moreover, officials reminded everyone the cash should help with real needs, not gambling. Drivers expressed huge relief. Ricardo Saburao shared, “Dako akong pasalamat kay naa na may magamit pud namo,” saying it covers food and school expenses amid tight times and high gas costs.

Hope Fuels the Road Ahead

Jacqueline Encabo added that fuel prices slashed her daily earnings, sometimes leaving just ₱400 after gas. “Dako gyud kaayo ni nga tabang, makapalit naman mi ani og bugas ug sud-an,” she said gratefully. She thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DSWD.

Alexander Lauderes hoped for lower fuel prices soon. “Pasalamat ko nga adunay in-ani nga ayuda,” he noted, using part for rice while dreaming of cheaper gas to ease driver struggles. Overall, this aid brings real support to hardworking TODA members facing the oil crisis.

COURTESY: PIA 10

Hey there, folks! Today, let’s dive into the vibrant world of social welfare right here in Cagayan de Oro City. If you’ve ever wondered how collaboration can turn challenges into triumphs, you’re in for a treat. So, grab your coffee and let’s get into it!

Collaboration in Action: The Power of Teamwork

During the anniversary bash, DSWD-10 officials took a moment to recognize the stars of the show—the partners who have been instrumental in implementing vital programs across the region. From LGUs in Bukidnon to Misamis Oriental and beyond, the “Panata Ko sa Bayan” awarding ceremony highlighted the incredible efforts made by various stakeholders. DSWD Regional Director Glofelia Uayan perfectly summed it up: “Nothing is impossible when everyone is working together.” And you know what? She’s spot on!

It’s all about coordinated efforts that help extend much-needed assistance to communities. The DSWD collaborates with LGUs to deliver essential services, including social protection programs and disaster response. Recognizing Champions: A Round of Applause

Let’s take a moment to applaud the Gawad Kalambuan awardees! Hats off to the LGUs of Libona, Don Carlos, and more—your hard work is truly inspiring. And it doesn’t stop there; the DSWD-10 also recognized inter-agency partners like the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Department of Health. Gumapon nailed it when he said that the recognition motivates everyone to cooperate and collaborate even more.

Additionally, DSWD Undersecretary Fatima Aliah Dimaporo expressed heartfelt gratitude to all partners for their unwavering support. It’s clear that the commitment to expand access to social welfare services is stronger than ever. With this kind of dedication, Cagayan de Oro City is setting the bar high, proving that when we work together, we can achieve remarkable things.

Milking Opportunities: The Future of Dairy Farming in Northern Mindanao

COURTESY: Misamis Oriental Provincial Information Office

Dairy farming in Northern Mindanao is on the brink of transformation, and the potential is HUGE. Under the watchful eye of Gov. Juliette T. Uy, local agriculture is receiving the nurturing it deserves. Recently, a significant discussion unfolded during a courtesy call from the National Dairy Authority (NDA), led by Department Manager Jester John P. Jadap, alongside the Northern Mindanao Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (NMFDC), chaired by Robert Maagad Enerio. The meeting, held on February 16, 2026, aimed to address the pressing challenges and opportunities of the dairy sector.

This initiative holds immense promise as it aligns with the Private Sector-funded Milk Feeding Program, aptly themed "Nourishing Filipino Children & Empowering Local Farmers." The program adheres to the revised Joint Administration Order No. 001-2025 from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), encouraging all governmental agencies to participate. This collaboration offers substantial benefits, particularly for donor private sectors and intended beneficiaries. The overarching goal is to combat malnutrition among children while simultaneously enhancing market opportunities for local dairy farmers. This multifaceted approach will not only assess and improve the quality of local milk production but also significantly boost the income of dairy farmers, ultimately steering the local dairy industry toward a brighter future.

A Collective Effort for Change

Gov. Juliette Uy expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support directed to dairy farmers, noting, “When I just sit, the support given to our dairy farmers is overwhelming,” as stated by NDA's Jester John P. Jadap. This collaborative spirit fosters optimism, as the provincial government commits to providing monetary assistance to dairy farmers. Such support, paired with the NDA and NMFDC’s efforts, promises to implement programs that will bridge the gap between local farmers and various agencies.

Moreover, an exciting opportunity arises next month with a one-day refresher course for dairy farmers across Misamis Oriental, including those from Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro. Set to take place at the MOPADC venue in Claveria town, this course aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an evolving dairy landscape. By investing in education and resources, Northern Mindanao positions itself as a vital player in the dairy industry, paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity. The future of dairy farming here is indeed bright, and with continued support, it will flourish.

Terrazas de Oro: Where Nature Meets Opportunity in the Heart of Cagayan de Oro

In the gentle embrace of Indahag’s rolling hills lies a dream that is swiftly becoming reality—**an emerging benchmark for well-planned, mixed-use communities in Cagayan de Oro**. Spread across a sprawling **37-hectare site**, Terrazas de Oro is more than just a development; it is a vision, meticulously crafted to create a harmonious blend of commerce, leisure, and everyday living.
Anchored gracefully along Dahino Drive, this community harnesses its **mountainside and riverfront landscape** with respect and ingenuity. Unlike urban projects that overwhelm nature, Terrazas de Oro works *with* its surroundings, allowing the whispering rivers and lush hilltops to guide its design. The result is a place where walkable streets invite exploration, where hotel clusters neighbor vibrant marketplaces, and where residents can live in rhythm with the land.
A Community Rooted in Connection and Sustainability

Terrazas de Oro is **envisioned as a holistic, sustainable, and inclusive community**—a rare fusion of environment, economy, and social life. This is **mixed-use development done right**, creating a seamless experience for residents and visitors alike.
Through **pedestrian-oriented streets**, it fosters human interaction and reduces reliance on cars. Mixed-use commercial zones bring shops, cafés, and services within reach, while residential clusters offer diverse living spaces that cater to different lifestyles. Beyond its borders, strong connections to the **CDO Convention Center** and **Lumbia Airfield** expand opportunities for business and travel, making Terrazas de Oro not only a destination but also a gateway to greater horizons.
Shaping the Future of Urban Living in CDO

What makes Terrazas de Oro truly remarkable is its **thoughtful land-use integration**. Every element—from where buildings stand to how streets curve—follows a plan that encourages walkability, connectivity, and economic vibrancy. By balancing growth with environmental stewardship, Terrazas de Oro plants the seeds for a future where communities flourish alongside the natural world.
It stands as a beacon of what’s possible when vision meets purpose: a place where people can work, play, and grow without losing sight of the mountains or the river. Here, growth, community, and nature move forward together—hand in hand.
