A Grand Vision Unfolds

Under the bright skies of Cagayan de Oro City, a landmark moment took place — the **𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝟱𝟬 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗞 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗭𝗔 𝗗𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔**. Spearheaded by Cong. Rufus Rodriguez, the ribbon-cutting was more than ceremonial — it marked the birth of a cultural and environmental jewel at the heart of Barangay 6.
The P50-million project features a magnificent Open Theatre, a scenic River View Deck, a spacious car park, and rentable commercial spaces designed for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products. Transitioning from vision to reality, this venue promises to be a melting pot where artistry meets sustainability, drawing both Kagay-anons and tourists into memorable experiences.

A Breath of Fresh Air for the City

This development is not just about aesthetics; it’s a vibrant chapter in **Project Lunhaw**, the City Government’s initiative to enhance Cagayan de Oro’s climate resilience. By transforming Plaza Divisoria into a walkable, bikable, and verdant urban haven, the city is taking proactive steps towards eco-friendly modernization. The open spaces invite the community to gather, celebrate, and reconnect — with culture, with nature, and with each other.
Present during the turnover were Barangay 6 Kap. Ian Glenn L. Chui, Project Lunhaw Head Patrick Gabutina, and DPWH 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) leaders, including District Engineer Jan Paulo Lisondra. Their collaboration showcases how visionaries and engineers can unite to shape a city that’s ready for the future yet rooted in its heritage.

**In essence**, the Open Theater and River Viewing Deck stand as more than infrastructure — they are symbols of hope, creativity, and environmental stewardship. With each performance held and every visitor welcomed, Cagayan de Oro steps closer to becoming a city where progress and paradise meet.

Cagayan de Oro City has recently witnessed a monumental step toward sustainable urban development as Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy led the turnover of Phases 3 and 4 of the Divisoria Redevelopment Site under Project Lunhaw. This significant event, held on June 11, underscores the city’s commitment to creating environmentally friendly spaces that foster community well-being. With local officials and City Hall’s bureaucracy present, the turnover marks a pivotal moment in the city’s ongoing transformation into a greener, more sustainable urban landscape.

The Vision Behind Project Lunhaw

At the heart of Project Lunhaw lies a vision articulated by Mayor Klarex himself, who emphasized the importance of creating spaces for relaxation and comfort. "Para kini sa mga katawhan sa atong syudad, diin sila makarelaks, kay kini usa ka comfort zone nga makapawala sa kalain sa gibati ug kasubo," he stated, conveying the project’s aim to provide residents with a sanctuary where they can alleviate their anxieties and grief. This vision reflects a broader understanding of urban development, one that prioritizes the mental and emotional well-being of citizens alongside environmental sustainability.

Moreover, the significance of this redevelopment extends beyond mere aesthetics. As Project Lunhaw coordinator Patrick Gabutina articulated, the initiative is designed not just for beautification but also for climate resilience. The project aims to create walkable, bikable, and green urban spaces, thereby promoting healthier lifestyles among the residents. This dual-purpose approach exemplifies a progressive understanding of urban planning, one that integrates leisure and functionality while addressing pressing environmental issues.

A Commitment to Sustainability

With the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, the need for sustainable urban development has never been more pressing. Mayor Klarex's administration recognizes this urgency and has committed to ensuring that Cagayan de Oro evolves into a greener city for future generations. The completion of the Divisoria redevelopment is a testament to this commitment, as it aligns with the administration's vision of a sustainable urban environment that can withstand the vicissitudes of climate change.

In her remarks during the turnover event, Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez highlighted a notable achievement under Mayor Klarex’s leadership: the redevelopment of Rizal Park, which has undergone transformations since its inception in 1917. This historical context serves to illustrate the city's ongoing dedication to revitalizing public spaces, ensuring they remain relevant and beneficial to the community. Such initiatives not only enhance the physical landscape but also strengthen community bonds, fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

Engaging the Community

The success of Project Lunhaw will largely depend on community engagement and participation. The city administration encourages residents to actively utilize these newly developed spaces, thereby reinforcing the idea that public areas are integral to the urban experience. By providing venues for relaxation and recreation, the project invites the community to partake in the benefits of green urban spaces, ensuring that these areas are not merely decorative but serve as vital components of daily life.

The turnover of Phases 3 and 4 of the Divisoria Redevelopment Site under Project Lunhaw marks a significant milestone in Cagayan de Oro City’s journey toward sustainability and community well-being. Mayor Klarex's commitment to creating a greener and more resilient urban environment reflects a forward-thinking approach that prioritizes the needs of the citizens. As the city embraces this transformative vision, it is poised to set a benchmark for other urban centers in the region, demonstrating that sustainable development and community welfare can indeed go hand in hand. With the collaborative efforts of local officials, project coordinators, and the community, Cagayan de Oro is on a promising path toward a brighter, greener future.
