Standing tall in the plans is *One Manresa Place* — a trio of towers that will redefine modern living: **Tower 1** with 19 storeys, **Tower 2** shooting up to 27 storeys, and **Tower 3** back at 19 storeys. Hello, skyline goals!

Okay, let’s talk numbers because they’re jaw-dropping. This project isn’t just about concrete, steel, and beautiful views — it’s about massive demand.  During the launch event, sales skyrocketed, hitting an incredible **₱4 billion** in just the first two days. Yes, TWO. DAYS. Then, like a rocket, total sales crossed **₱5 billion** within two weeks. That’s **823 units sold**, representing nearly 90% of everything available. Talk about  hot property!
But why the hype? Well, it’s not just a set of towers… it’s a community with a future. Being a **Mixed-Use Premier University Township**, Manresa Town blends residential, educational, and commercial spaces in one vibrant ecosystem. Imagine walking from your condo to a university lecture, grabbing coffee from a nearby cafĂ©, and catching sunset views — all without leaving your neighborhood.

Empowering Western Mindanao: A Visionary Dialogue on Sustainable Growth and Development

COURTESY: Asenso Pagadian

Pagadian City | May 7, 2025 - PZCCIFI, together with the Mindanao Development Authority Western Mindanao Area Management Office Personnel, paid a courtesy visit to Sec. Antonio Cerilles, Presidential Adviser on Mindanao Concerns.

Western Mindanao stands on the brink of transformative progress, as key stakeholders converge to chart a course for sustainable development in the region. The recent meeting involving the Pagadian Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (PZCCIFI), alongside the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Western Mindanao Area Management Office Personnel, and Sec. Antonio Cerilles, highlights an unprecedented collaborative spirit. It addresses the crucial facets shaping the socio-economic landscape of Zamboanga del Sur and its neighboring provinces. This blog delves into the multifaceted discussions from the meeting, emphasizing six pillars vital to regional advancement: reliable power, establishment of economic zones, higher education innovation, regional office transfers, business-friendly local government units, and other emerging development themes.

Securing Reliable Power Supply: The Backdrop to Western Mindanao’s Development

Energy security foundationally underpins any sustainable development strategy. Consequently, ensuring reliable power for Zamboanga del Sur and the broader Western Mindanao region emerged as a pivotal topic during the dialogue. The current power infrastructure in the area has faced recurrent challenges due to geographic dispersion and infrastructural constraints. This reality inhibits local industry, deters investors, and affects day-to-day life for residents.

During the visit, stakeholders underscored the pressing need for a robust, stable, and renewable energy framework. Transitioning towards sustainable energy sources not only addresses supply reliability but aligns with the national commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, energy projects such as microgrids or hybrid solar and wind initiatives are under consideration to complement existing power plants and bridge supply gaps. By adopting a multi-pronged approach to energy, Western Mindanao can foster an environment conducive to industrial growth, improved quality of life, and climate resilience.

The Strategic Establishment of Economic Zones: Catalyzing Growth and Investment

Complementing efforts to secure reliable energy, the establishment of economic zones within Western Mindanao represents a strategic move toward invigorating local economies. These zones serve as hubs for manufacturing, trade, and services, offering incentives that attract both foreign and domestic investors. Through streamlined processes and optimized infrastructure, economic zones facilitate ease of doing business, promoting job creation and technological advancement.

In the meeting with Sec. Cerilles, PZCCIFI advocated for the deliberate designation of economic zones tailored to the unique resources and capacities of Western Mindanao. By doing so, economic diversification can accelerate, with sectors such as agro-industry, fisheries, and manufacturing thriving simultaneously. Furthermore, the establishment of these zones is anticipated to uplift the provincial economy of Zamboanga del Sur, translating into enhanced social services, infrastructure development, and greater regional competitiveness.

Prioritizing Education: The Proposed University of the Philippines Campus in Western Mindanao

Education remains a cornerstone for long-term socio-economic development. A significant highlight of the meeting was the proposal to establish a University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Western Mindanao, preferably within Zamboanga del Sur. This move reflects a commitment to expanding access to high-quality tertiary education, research, and innovation opportunities within the region.

The establishment of a UP campus will serve multifaceted purposes. Firstly, it can act as an intellectual hub producing highly skilled graduates tailored to the region’s specific industry needs. Secondly, it fosters research programs addressing local challenges in agriculture, renewable energy, public health, and governance. Thirdly, such an institution encourages youth retention, which is vital for sustaining demographic vitality and the workforce pipeline. The local community expressed optimism that this development will galvanize socio-cultural progress and strengthen Western Mindanao’s status as an emerging center for academic excellence.

Administrative Decentralization and Business-Friendly Governance: Enabling Local Dynamics

The transfer of regional offices to Pagadian City forms another centerpiece in the strategic development agenda discussed with Sec. Cerilles. This full transfer is not merely logistical; it symbolizes greater administrative autonomy and enhanced service delivery capabilities within Western Mindanao. Relocating offices closer to the communities they serve improves responsiveness, fosters inter-agency collaboration, and boosts the economic profile of Pagadian City as a regional hub.

Moreover, the discussion extended to nurturing business-friendly local government units (LGUs), vital for creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurs and investors. Business-friendly LGUs adopt transparent policies, expedite permits, and provide support services, thereby reducing red tape and encouraging vibrant economic activity. These reforms align with the broader national development frameworks, ensuring Western Mindanao remains competitive and attractive to both local ventures and external investors. Through these administrative and governance innovations, the region can expect heightened efficiency, inclusivity, and overall development velocity.

Addressing Other Emerging Concerns: Towards Holistic Regional Development

Beyond the major themes, other concerns were articulated during the courtesy visit, underscoring the complexity and dynamism of regional development. These include infrastructure improvements such as better road connectivity, enhanced healthcare facilities, disaster resilience measures, and inclusive social programs. The dialogue illustrated the importance of a holistic approach that integrates multi-sectoral priorities, ensuring that economic growth translates into tangible benefits for all segments of society.

Furthermore, stakeholders reiterated the significance of peace and security as prerequisites for sustained development. Given Western Mindanao’s diverse cultural landscape, investment in social cohesion, conflict resolution, and participatory governance is indispensable. Consequently, continuous engagement between government bodies, civil society, and private sectors remains a priority to maintain momentum towards a prosperous and peaceful region.

Concluding Reflections: Charting a Progressive Path for Western Mindanao

The May 7, 2025 meeting between PZCCIFI, Mindanao Development Authority Western Mindanao Area Management Office Personnel, and Sec. Antonio Cerilles exemplifies proactive governance and strategic foresight. Addressing reliable power supply, economic zone establishment, educational enhancements, administrative restructuring, and business-friendly reforms epitomizes an integrated approach to overcoming developmental bottlenecks.

As Western Mindanao embraces these initiatives, the region is poised to unlock its immense potential, fostering inclusive growth, social advancement, and environmental sustainability. Such collaborative endeavors affirm the commitment of local stakeholders and national leaders in realizing a prosperous future where all Western Mindanawons can thrive.

This comprehensive dialogue marks a milestone in Western Mindanao’s developmental journey. It lays a robust foundation for future investments, policy reforms, and community engagement aimed at transforming the region into a beacon of progress, sustainability, and resilience.
