Impasugong Hits the Road First: Bukidnon's Big Win with the P37-B Mindanao Makeover!

COURTESY: PIA Northern Mindanao

Hey folks, big news just dropped for Impasugong! This cool town in Bukidnon now stands as the first in the province to score benefits from the massive **P37-billion Mindanao Transport Connectivity Improvement Project (MTCIP)**. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) drives this flagship road program, and Impasugong jumps ahead with Link Road 1 kicking things off.

This project ramps up road networks all over Mindanao. It boosts connectivity in key growth corridors, and the national government pushes hard to make travel smoother and faster.

Why Impasugong Leads the Pack

Locals cheer because the upgrades target real needs right here. DPWH and the LGU signed an MOU, locking in Link Road 1 entirely within Impasugong. It starts at Sayre Highway, loops north, and reconnects—cutting travel hassles for farmers hauling produce and families heading to markets. Farmers gain quicker, cheaper, safer trips, slashing product losses and opening doors to bigger opportunities.

Moreover, the whole MTCIP ties into broader goals. It improves climate resilience, road safety, and access to economic hubs. Impasugong benefits early, setting the stage for the rest of Bukidnon and Mindanao to follow.

What This Means for the Future

Everyone sees the ripple effects coming fast. Better roads mean stronger trade, more jobs, and vibrant communities. Impasugong shows how smart infrastructure changes lives—farmers sell fresher goods, kids reach schools easier, and businesses thrive.

In short, this flagship move by DPWH sparks progress across the island. Impasugong celebrates leading Bukidnon into a connected, brighter tomorrow!

Livestock Innovations in Malaybalay: Where Tradition Meets Technology

COURTESY: PIA

Hey there, fellow agri-enthusiasts! If you haven't heard, Malaybalay City in Bukidnon just rolled out the red carpet for a nationwide gathering of livestock specialists. Yep, you heard that right! From February 17 to 20, the city hosted a four-day consultative planning workshop facilitated by the Agricultural Training Institute – National Livestock Program (ATI-NLP). This event wasn’t just a meet-and-greet; it was an epic brainstorming session aimed at aligning regional livestock programs with production targets. Pretty cool, right?

The spotlight during this gathering was on Dr. Ruth Miclat-Sonaco, the ATI–International Training Center on Pig Husbandry focal person. She emphasized that specialized staff performance is the backbone of the agency's reputation as the country's go-to livestock office. With a firm focus on innovation and data-driven governance, Malaybalay is not just keeping up; it's setting the pace! Dr. Sonaco announced a commitment to bring programs directly to the grassroots level, ensuring that help gets to where it’s needed most. Talk about a fantastic way to bridge the gap between the experts and the farmers!

Mayor Pabillaran: Leading the Charge for Food Security

Now, let’s talk about the man of the hour, Mayor Jay Warren Pabillaran. In his welcome speech, he didn't hold back on the city’s ambitious goals for food security. He called for expanded artificial insemination coverage and rigorous farm biosecurity measures to ward off potential supply shortages. It’s clear that Malaybalay is on a mission, and the mayor is leading the charge with flair!

But wait, there's more! Mayor Pabillaran also highlighted the city’s veterinary outreach program, which sends teams to remote barangays, sometimes as far as 77 kilometers away. These teams deliver essential animal health care and disease surveillance, ensuring that no one is left behind. “In Malaybalay, we prioritize agricultural and veterinary extension services,” he assured. With regular training for veterinarians and upgraded diagnostic equipment, the city is gearing up to tackle any challenges head-on!

Turning Climate Challenges into Opportunities

Let’s not forget about the unique climate of Malaybalay—a huge advantage compared to cities in temperate regions that face winter disruptions. Mayor Pabillaran pointed out how countries like Israel have turned water scarcity into innovation gold. He encouraged local producers to adopt advanced techniques like drip irrigation to ensure steady production. After all, necessity is the mother of invention!

This forward-thinking approach isn't just about surviving; it's about thriving! The mayor emphasized the importance of data-driven governance, collecting vital statistics on everything from animal inventory to disease cases, to guide policy and resource allocation. It’s a smart strategy that promises to elevate farmers' earnings while aligning local output with national demand.

So there you have it! Malaybalay City is not just another dot on the map; it’s a vibrant hub of innovation in livestock management. With a strong commitment from local officials and specialists, the future looks bright for agriculture in this bustling city. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for what’s next!

Milking Opportunities: The Future of Dairy Farming in Northern Mindanao

COURTESY: Misamis Oriental Provincial Information Office

Dairy farming in Northern Mindanao is on the brink of transformation, and the potential is HUGE. Under the watchful eye of Gov. Juliette T. Uy, local agriculture is receiving the nurturing it deserves. Recently, a significant discussion unfolded during a courtesy call from the National Dairy Authority (NDA), led by Department Manager Jester John P. Jadap, alongside the Northern Mindanao Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (NMFDC), chaired by Robert Maagad Enerio. The meeting, held on February 16, 2026, aimed to address the pressing challenges and opportunities of the dairy sector.

This initiative holds immense promise as it aligns with the Private Sector-funded Milk Feeding Program, aptly themed "Nourishing Filipino Children & Empowering Local Farmers." The program adheres to the revised Joint Administration Order No. 001-2025 from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), encouraging all governmental agencies to participate. This collaboration offers substantial benefits, particularly for donor private sectors and intended beneficiaries. The overarching goal is to combat malnutrition among children while simultaneously enhancing market opportunities for local dairy farmers. This multifaceted approach will not only assess and improve the quality of local milk production but also significantly boost the income of dairy farmers, ultimately steering the local dairy industry toward a brighter future.

A Collective Effort for Change

Gov. Juliette Uy expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support directed to dairy farmers, noting, “When I just sit, the support given to our dairy farmers is overwhelming,” as stated by NDA's Jester John P. Jadap. This collaborative spirit fosters optimism, as the provincial government commits to providing monetary assistance to dairy farmers. Such support, paired with the NDA and NMFDC’s efforts, promises to implement programs that will bridge the gap between local farmers and various agencies.

Moreover, an exciting opportunity arises next month with a one-day refresher course for dairy farmers across Misamis Oriental, including those from Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro. Set to take place at the MOPADC venue in Claveria town, this course aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an evolving dairy landscape. By investing in education and resources, Northern Mindanao positions itself as a vital player in the dairy industry, paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity. The future of dairy farming here is indeed bright, and with continued support, it will flourish.

Introduction to a Mountain Paradise

Nestled in the heart of Bukidnon, Mt. Anahawon, also known as Valencia City Skypark, invites adventurers and nature lovers alike to experience the enchanting thrill of walking above the clouds. With its stunning vistas and serene atmosphere, this destination promises a refreshing escape without the burdens of long hikes or heavy backpacks. As you ascend, you’ll find yourself enveloped in nature’s beauty, making it a perfect getaway for both seasoned trekkers and casual explorers.

Local trekker Erika Alaba captured the essence of Mt. Anahawon beautifully when she described her early morning experience. “On its peak, a cool, refreshing breeze swept across the ridge, carrying the scent of grass and mist. In front of me stretched an endless horizon,” she recalled. Such moments are not just rare; they are transformative. The absence of urban noise and the sight of mountains fading into the soft morning light creates an unparalleled sense of peace and connection with nature.

The Allure of the Sea of Clouds

One of the most captivating features of Mt. Anahawon is the thick “sea of clouds” that blankets the valley at sunrise. City Tourism Officer Leonor M. Mandawe explains that visitors flock to the ridge between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. to witness this spectacular phenomenon. “The ridge offers a 360-degree view of thick clouds rolling over the valley, making it a haven for photographers and early-morning visitors,” Mandawe said. Indeed, the visual spectacle evokes a sense of wonder, as the clouds shift and dance below, creating an ethereal landscape that is both breathtaking and serene.

Moreover, the highlight of this stunning location is the glass view deck that extends over the ridge. As you step onto this transparent walkway, a sensation of weightlessness washes over you, as if you are floating above the clouds. On clear mornings, the view below transforms into a mesmerizing canvas of white, gently rolling waves of fog. “It’s a surreal experience that you have to feel to believe,” Mandawe adds, emphasizing the magic that awaits visitors at Mt. Anahawon.

Planning Your Visit

Reaching Mt. Anahawon is easier than you might think. The journey begins at Plaza Rizal in Valencia City, where travelers meander along the scenic Kapalong–Talaingod–Valencia Road. With recent road improvements, the trip has become not only safer but also more enjoyable, providing glimpses of lush forests and rolling hills along the way. Once you arrive, the tranquil atmosphere and cool mountain air will greet you, making the short drive from the city center well worth it.

For those planning an overnight stay, remember to secure a permit at the Treasurer’s Office and pay a small fee of P200 at least five days in advance. While there are no accommodations on-site, visitors can bring their own tents and essentials to enjoy a night surrounded by nature. The Skypark operates daily from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing early risers to catch the breathtaking sunrise or latecomers to savor the fading colors of dusk. With entrance fees set at P50 per person, P50 per car, and P30 per motorcycle, this gem remains accessible for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike.

From Ruin to Renewal: The Road That Binds Northern Mindanao and Davao Once More

COURTESY: PIA

The Long Road Back to Connection

In **QUEZON, Bukidnon**, the air buzzed with anticipation on January 14 as **Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon** stood before a transformed landscape. Just three months earlier, Sitio Kipolot in Barangay Palacapao had been a place of tragedy and isolation. The collapse of the **Bukidnon-Davao (BuDa) highway**, triggered by relentless water saturation and seismic activity, left the area scarred—both physically and emotionally—claiming two lives and halting the vital exchange of goods between Northern Mindanao and the Davao Region.

Yet, the unveiling of a **new 460-meter diversion road** brought both relief and renewed hope. Adjacent to the destroyed highway, this four-lane alignment was more than just asphalt and concrete—it was a promise of permanence. With **P48.5 million** in funding, including **P20 million from the DPWH Quick Response Fund**, the road now stands as a robust lifeline, engineered to withstand extreme weather and prevent future collapses.

Transitioning from months of disruption to seamless travel, trade routes have once again pulsed with life. Heavy cargo trucks now rumble past verdant fields, carrying the agricultural treasures of Bukidnon to markets across the archipelago.

Engineering Resilience and Agricultural Promise

The success of this project lies not only in its scale but also in its meticulous design. Secretary Dizon emphasized reinforced slope protection and a **high-capacity drainage system**—innovations inspired by Japanese engineering standards, in collaboration with the consulting firm Katahira. By following a phased construction approach, the team began with technical assessments, integrated durable asphalting, and conducted stringent structural tests before allowing traffic to flow once more.

Leaders like **Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri** and **Governor Rogelio Neil Roque** witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of the new highway. Zubiri recalled the hardship of November, when crews carved out gravel detours and concrete pedestrian ladders to navigate hilly terrain. Their tireless effort, day and night, proved instrumental in keeping inter-provincial mobility afloat until the reinforced pathway was complete.

Now, Bukidnon’s contribution of **7.5 percent to the nation’s agricultural GDP** gains a renewed safeguard. The reopening secures the critical food link between **Northern and Southern Mindanao**, ensuring farms, markets, and communities thrive without fear of sudden isolation. From the ruins of October’s disaster rises a road that does not merely connect destinations—it strengthens the spine of Mindanao’s economy, culture, and resilience.

Harvesting Progress: The RCPT Initiative in MARAMAG, Bukidnon — A Model for Modern Corn Production

COURTESY: (JLO/DA-10/PIA-10/Bukidnon)

Overview of the Project

The Department of Agriculture–Northern Mindanao (DA-10), in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Maramag, held a field day on Sept. 19 in Barangay Kiharong to promote corn cultivation methods under the 500-hectare Recommended Corn Production Technologies (RCPT) project. Consequently, the RCPT project features genetically modified (GM) hybrid yellow corn seeds and seeks to promote farming practices, increase the supply of corn for food and feed, and support farmers through value chain integration. The project is implemented by 12 farmers’ cooperatives and associations in eight barangays. A total of P7.25 million worth of hybrid seeds and fertilizer was provided to 723 farmers for one cropping season. Each farmer received two bags of corn seed and 10 bags of inorganic fertilizer per hectare.
Furthermore, Maramag Municipal Agriculturist Armand dela Cruz said the local agriculture office has been supporting farmers with soil sampling, seed and fertilizer application, and other production activities. “Through recommended production technologies, we hope to achieve higher yields, better quality, and greater income for our farmers,” he said. Therefore, the coordinated technical assistance and input provision illustrate a comprehensive approach to improving local corn productivity.

Impact and Outcomes

Beneficiaries reported notable improvements. For instance, Carmelito Balaba, president of the Dagumbaan Farmers’ Association in Barangay Dagumbaan and an RCPT beneficiary, said the assistance has helped improve results for farmers in his area. He observed that prior to support, farmers used traditional varieties with limited yields; whereas now, “pinaagi sa GM hybrid seeds nga gihatag, mas dako ug mas mayo ang harvest labi na kung hapsay ang yuta ug husto ang pagtanom.” (Before the inputs, our members relied on traditional corn varieties with low yields. Now, we’re grateful for the support, especially the hybrid variety, which produces bigger cobs when planted in well-prepared farmland.)

Moreover, crop cut results shared during the field day included plant population and height; ear diameter, length, and number per plot; kernel and cob weight; shelling recovery; field moisture content; pest incidence; and yield. Reported harvests ranged from 5.73 to 9.57 metric tons per hectare. In addition, Janet D. Lopez, chief of the DA-10 Bukidnon Provincial Operations Center, acknowledged Maramag as one of two RCPT project recipients in the region this year and congratulated local partners for their support of DA programs. Likewise, Richard Apare, Corn Program reports officer of DA-10, encouraged farmers to form clusters to improve efficiency, strengthen market access, and expand eligibility for government support programs.

Conclusion and Forward Path

Consequently, this initiative supports the current administration’s vision of a food-secure Philippines and a vibrant agricultural industry, anchored in stronger local partnerships and modern production technologies. Moving forward, continued collaboration among DA-10, MAO Maramag, the Provincial Agriculture Office, and farmer cooperatives will remain essential to sustain yield gains, enhance market linkages, and secure long-term benefits for corn producers in MARAMAG, Bukidnon.

Banking on Progress: The Development Bank of the Philippines Expands Reach in Talakag, Bukidnon

COURTESY: (GDA/PIA-10)

In an era where accessibility to financial services plays a crucial role in local development, the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has taken a significant step forward. On June 10, 2023, the bank inaugurated its Branch Lite Unit (BLU) in Talakag, Bukidnon, thereby expanding its presence in the province and enhancing banking accessibility for the local population. This new branch is not just a banking facility; it signifies a commitment to fostering economic growth and social development in the region, particularly among underserved communities.

A New Dawn for Banking Services in Talakag

Situated in Barangay 1, the newly opened BLU stands as the first government-owned commercial bank in Talakag and the third DBP branch in Bukidnon, complementing existing branches in Malaybalay and Valencia. The establishment of this branch aligns with the vision outlined by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his Bagong Pilipinas framework, which emphasizes the importance of accessible financial services for local development. This initiative aims to bridge the banking gap and offer vital financial services to those who have long been excluded from the formal banking system.

DBP Chairman Philip G. Lo articulated the bank's dedication to collaborating with the local government in financing critical infrastructure and developmental projects. He stated, “We look forward to being a partner in Talakag’s ongoing growth, financing infrastructure, livelihood, and development projects that will further boost local employment and tourism.” This proactive approach not only seeks to enhance the economic landscape of Talakag but also aims to create a ripple effect that benefits neighboring municipalities in Bukidnon.

Moreover, the local government officials have welcomed the establishment of the DBP branch with open arms. Mayor Vergito O. Factura highlighted the branch's importance, particularly for the Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities residing in the area. He noted that "seventy percent of this town’s population are IP community members," emphasizing that the bank’s presence will finally provide them with the necessary attention and services. This sentiment reflects a broader understanding of how financial institutions can empower marginalized communities by offering tailored banking solutions that meet their unique needs.

Fostering Economic Growth through Collaboration

DBP’s strategic initiative in Talakag not only aims to serve its local residents but also seeks to attract investment in the region. Incoming Mayor Renato Sulatan Jr. remarked on how the branch enhances access to banking services and fosters investor interest. He stated, “Greatly helpful, as we no longer need to travel to Cagayan de Oro for transactions. This also encourages investors, highlighting Talakag’s appeal as an investment hub.” The presence of the DBP branch is poised to stimulate economic activity, drawing potential investors and enhancing the overall business climate in Talakag.

The bank's commitment to serving previously underserved areas is further reinforced by Mary Joyce B. Salgados, DBP vice president and head of the Northern Mindanao Branch Banking Group. Salgados emphasized the importance of building alliances with local partners to drive development efforts. The Talakag BLU represents a pivotal opportunity for the bank to extend its services to communities that have historically lacked access to financial support. She assured the public that DBP is ready to assist local governments in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, health, and more.

As part of its commitment to the community, the Talakag BLU will operate from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., ensuring that residents have ample opportunity to access banking services. Salgados concluded with a powerful message: “Today we celebrate DBP’s commitment to reach every corner of the country, from bustling cities to quiet, promising municipalities like Talakag.” This statement encapsulates the essence of DBP’s mission—to be a reliable partner in the journey toward inclusive growth and development.

A Bright Future Ahead

The opening of the DBP Branch Lite Unit in Talakag signifies more than just an expansion of banking services; it embodies hope, opportunity, and a commitment to community development. With a focus on collaboration and a dedication to serving the underserved, the bank stands poised to make a meaningful impact in the lives of local residents. As Talakag embraces this new chapter, it holds the promise of a brighter future, one where access to financial services paves the way for economic empowerment and sustainable development. Through such initiatives, the Development Bank of the Philippines reaffirms its role as a catalyst for positive change in the communities it serves.
