Wave goodbye to overcrowded hospitals and inadequate facilities because a brand new, larger provincial hospital is on the way! This new development is set to completely transform the healthcare landscape in the area. The excitement in Balo-i is palpable after the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new provincial hospital in Barangay Maria Cristina. For years, the Balo-i Provincial Hospital in East Poblacion struggled to meet the needs of its 70,000 residents. With a minuscule size of 420 square meters and a mere 10-bed capacity, the facility often found itself overcrowded. The situation was especially dire during emergencies like the Marawi siege in 2017, when the hospital had to accommodate up to 60 patients at once.

Now, thanks to a generous donation from the Macaraeg-Macapagal family, hope is on the horizon. They’ve provided a sprawling 3-hectare site for the new hospital, which will be renamed to honor Doña Irenia Dela Cruz Macaraeg, grandmother of former President and current Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Arroyo, alongside her brother Diosdado Macapagal Jr., emphasized that this donation symbolizes the lasting friendship between their family and the Dimaporo family.
