Introduction to a Mountain Paradise

Nestled in the heart of Bukidnon, Mt. Anahawon, also known as Valencia City Skypark, invites adventurers and nature lovers alike to experience the enchanting thrill of walking above the clouds. With its stunning vistas and serene atmosphere, this destination promises a refreshing escape without the burdens of long hikes or heavy backpacks. As you ascend, you’ll find yourself enveloped in nature’s beauty, making it a perfect getaway for both seasoned trekkers and casual explorers.

Local trekker Erika Alaba captured the essence of Mt. Anahawon beautifully when she described her early morning experience. “On its peak, a cool, refreshing breeze swept across the ridge, carrying the scent of grass and mist. In front of me stretched an endless horizon,” she recalled. Such moments are not just rare; they are transformative. The absence of urban noise and the sight of mountains fading into the soft morning light creates an unparalleled sense of peace and connection with nature.

The Allure of the Sea of Clouds

One of the most captivating features of Mt. Anahawon is the thick “sea of clouds” that blankets the valley at sunrise. City Tourism Officer Leonor M. Mandawe explains that visitors flock to the ridge between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. to witness this spectacular phenomenon. “The ridge offers a 360-degree view of thick clouds rolling over the valley, making it a haven for photographers and early-morning visitors,” Mandawe said. Indeed, the visual spectacle evokes a sense of wonder, as the clouds shift and dance below, creating an ethereal landscape that is both breathtaking and serene.

Moreover, the highlight of this stunning location is the glass view deck that extends over the ridge. As you step onto this transparent walkway, a sensation of weightlessness washes over you, as if you are floating above the clouds. On clear mornings, the view below transforms into a mesmerizing canvas of white, gently rolling waves of fog. “It’s a surreal experience that you have to feel to believe,” Mandawe adds, emphasizing the magic that awaits visitors at Mt. Anahawon.

Planning Your Visit

Reaching Mt. Anahawon is easier than you might think. The journey begins at Plaza Rizal in Valencia City, where travelers meander along the scenic Kapalong–Talaingod–Valencia Road. With recent road improvements, the trip has become not only safer but also more enjoyable, providing glimpses of lush forests and rolling hills along the way. Once you arrive, the tranquil atmosphere and cool mountain air will greet you, making the short drive from the city center well worth it.

For those planning an overnight stay, remember to secure a permit at the Treasurer’s Office and pay a small fee of P200 at least five days in advance. While there are no accommodations on-site, visitors can bring their own tents and essentials to enjoy a night surrounded by nature. The Skypark operates daily from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing early risers to catch the breathtaking sunrise or latecomers to savor the fading colors of dusk. With entrance fees set at P50 per person, P50 per car, and P30 per motorcycle, this gem remains accessible for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike.

Mt. Anahawon is more than just a hill; it is a sanctuary that beckons you to explore its wonders. With the promise of invigorating air, stunning views, and the magical experience of walking above the clouds, it stands as a testament to the beauty that Bukidnon has to offer.
