On July 11, 2025, a significant milestone for the residents of Barangay Nangcaon, Opol, Misamis Oriental unfolded as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Northern Mindanao officially turned over an improved farm-to-market road to the local government unit (LGU) of Opol. This 1.23-kilometer road, constructed at a total cost of P29.89 million, was a collaborative effort funded by both the DTI Northern Mindanao’s Rural Agro-enterprise Partnership for Inclusive Development (RAPID) Growth Project and the LGU Opol. The new infrastructure is poised to benefit 4,694 residents, significantly enhancing their accessibility to markets and resources.

The improved road stands as a beacon of progress, particularly for the 54 members of the Nangcaon Tribal Farmers Organization and approximately 400 farming households engaged in diverse agricultural activities. DTI Assistant Regional Director Almer Masillones emphasized the project’s role in expanding market access for local farmers, stating, “Usa sa mga dagkong lakang sa pagtabang sa atong mga mag-uuma ang mapadako ilang mga merkado pinaagi sa pagpaayo sa dalan.” This initiative not only reduces travel time but also aids in mitigating market risks associated with agricultural production.
