A New Dawn in San Fernando's Farming Scene
Welcome to the vibrant town of San Fernando, Bukidnon, where the Department of Agriculture in Northern Mindanao (DA-10) is spearheading a revolution in agriculture with a hefty investment of over P12 million. Their recent handover of three game-changing agricultural infrastructure projects is set to transform the landscape for local farmers, pushing productivity to new heights.
In a heartwarming turnover ceremony on December 18, DA-10 Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan handed over a certificate of turnover for a P7.4-M Solar-powered Irrigation System (SPIS) to the town's leaders, including San Fernando Municipal Mayor Rogelio C. Yeke and Barangay Captain Noel R. Espares. With the Municipal Agriculturist, Coleen Alva C. Ambos, at the helm, this initiative is a beacon of hope for rainfed rice producers.
The SPIS, featuring a solar array of 80 panels and a powerful 22-kilowatt pump, is a game-changer for up to 20.5 hectares of rice fields. Imagine the impact! Farmers no longer need to rely solely on creek water and unpredictable rainfall. The solar-powered pump is an innovation that promises consistent irrigation, optimal cropping intensity, and a surge in productivity and income.
Diversion Dam Dreams Coming True
Meanwhile, the Candelaria Diversion Dam has undergone a remarkable transformation. Worth P4.5 million, this project was handed to the Candelaria Balongkot Irrigators’ Association, led by chairperson Ben C. Cayang. This isn't just an infrastructure upgrade; it's a lifeline for local farmers.
The newly improved 500-meter diversion dam, spanning 60 hectares of agricultural land, is a testament to progress. It opens doors to increased productivity, making farming not just a livelihood but a thriving venture. With better access to water resources, farmers can now cultivate with confidence and embrace the future of farming.
Transitioning from dependency on nature to harnessing technology is a giant leap forward. The dam is not just a structure; it's a promise of prosperity for the farming community, fostering hope and resilience.
Nurturing Seeds of Change with ORGANIKK MPC
In the heart of Barangay Halapitan, another exciting development is taking root. The Organisasyon sa Nagkahiusang Ipalambo ang Katawhan ug Kinaiyahan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ORGANIKK MPC) has received a 180-square meter nursery valued at P496.95K. This nursery is a boon for over 200 coconut farmers, supported by the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan.
This nursery isn't just a structure; it's a fertile ground for dreams. Capable of nurturing over 20 to 30 thousand coffee and cacao seedlings, it promises a flourishing future. Nicolas T. Filipino, the cooperative's chairperson, expressed excitement about the new facility, highlighting its role in ensuring the success of government-extended projects.
The nursery is a symbol of growth and sustainability. With plans to intercrop coffee and cacao, ORGANIKK MPC sets the stage for diversified agriculture, paving the way for a prosperous, interconnected farming community.
Celebrating Progress and Looking Ahead
The turnover event was more than a ceremony; it was a celebration of progress. Sangguniang Bayan Agriculture Committee Chairperson Dante C. Dy and SB Member Richard Taboclaon were among the attendees, underscoring the importance of these new agri-infrastructure projects in enhancing farmers' productivity.
Engr. Arlene Almo of the DA-10 Bukidnon Provincial Operations Center and Engr. Romil G. Española, Project Management Section chief of the DA-10 Regional Agricultural Engineering Division, were also present. Their presence highlighted the collaborative spirit driving these initiatives forward.
In conclusion, the future of San Fernando, Bukidnon, looks brighter than ever. With these innovative projects, farmers can embrace modern facilities, improve productivity, and enjoy the fruits of their labor. As we celebrate these milestones, we look forward to a thriving agricultural community, empowered by innovation and teamwork. San Fernando is not just growing crops; it's growing dreams.
