Clearing the Way: How a Little Creek Cleanup Is Keeping Bulua Dry

COURTESY: DPWH Cagayan de Oro City 1st District Engineering Office

Nobody enjoys waking up to rising water. That's why the Oplan Kontra Baha (OKB) program, led by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., puts flood prevention at the front of its agenda. Recently, the DPWH Cagayan de Oro City 1st District Engineering Office carried out vegetation clearing at Sapang Creek in Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

First, the crew moved in and cut away the overgrown plants clogging the creek. As a result, they cleared 5 linear meters of the waterway. That may sound small, but every cleared meter helps water flow freely instead of piling up.

Think of a creek like a drain in your kitchen sink. When something blocks it, water has nowhere to go. Similarly, thick weeds and debris slow the current and push floodwater into nearby homes. Therefore, clearing the creek reduces the threat and danger of flooding in the community.

Of course, one cleanup won't solve everything. Still, it shows that local engineers are taking action rather than waiting for the next storm. Moreover, residents can help by keeping their waterways free of trash.

In short, small steps like this build bigger protection. Stay safe, Bulua!

₱8.5 Billion and a Big Dream: CDO's Government Complex Gets Its Green Light

Big news in Cagayan de Oro! The 21st City Council approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy to negotiate with banks and financial institutions for an ₱8.5-billion loan.

The vote tells the story. Fifteen councilors voted yes, three voted no, and one abstained. Clearly, the majority wanted to move forward.

So, what would the loan pay for? The proposed 22.9-hectare Government Complex would cover land acquisition, site development, and the construction of government buildings.

Additionally, it would fund furniture and fixtures. Ultimately, city leaders envision a centralized, one-stop government center where residents can access city services in one place.

However, not everyone cheered. During deliberations, some councilors questioned the size and necessity of the proposed borrowing.
Their main worry? Several existing city-funded projects remain unfinished. Therefore, these councilors asked whether the city should complete those first before taking on new debt.

For now, the resolution lets the city government explore its financing options. Importantly, it does not close the deal.

Still, the plan must pass the required processes and approvals. Meanwhile, residents will keep watching closely as this ₱8.5-billion proposal unfolds.
