Honesty Pays: The Night a ₱200K Windfall Found Its Way Home

Imagine finding ₱200,000 on the ground. Most of us would freeze. Court Flores Luzana, a job-order employee of the City Government of Ozamiz, took a different path.

On Sept. 24, Luzana spotted the cash at Stephanie Subdivision in Barangay Malaubang. Instead of pocketing it, he took it straight to the Ozamiz City Police Station that same night. PMaj. Jess Rey Rabaca, the officer on duty, counted four bundles of ₱50,000 each, all in ₱500 bills.

Meanwhile, PMSg. Gaudencio P. Monopolio Jr. of the Police Regional Office-10 had already reported losing the money. Police verified his claim and matched the records. Then they formally turned over the full amount to him.

The City Government of Ozamiz, under Mayor Sam Norman G. Fuentes, commended Luzana for reporting and surrendering the cash. His honesty, they said, reflects the values of the city's "Asenso" framework, including helpfulness and respect for other people's property.

Luzana's act shows that public service values don't end when office hours do. Even outside his official duties, he showed what a government employee can be. Honesty, after all, is the best policy.
