As Cagayan de Oro approaches a significant milestone, the city has unveiled an impressive array of events for the Higalaay Festival 2025. This year’s theme, “Proud of Our Roots, Bold in Our Dreams,” encapsulates the spirit of celebration, unity, and progress. With a total of 58 activities planned, the festival marks the city’s 75th Charter Anniversary. The initiative aims to foster community ties while showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Cagayan de Oro.

The festival boasts a well-rounded program, which includes 13 core events primarily organized by the city government alongside several private organizations. As Acting Tourism Officer Mark Kenneth Jalapadan noted during a recent press briefing, the core events have been staples of the Higalaay Festival for the past five to ten years. Notable highlights include the Higalaay Grand Launching on August 8 at Rio de Oro Boulevard and the Higalaay Civic-Military Parade and Float Competition on August 27, which has already attracted 136 registered contingents.

Moreover, the festival features major events such as the 60th Miss Cagayan de Oro Pageant on August 23, the Mindanao Fashion Summit from August 21 to 23, and the PyroMusical Competition on August 24. Additionally, the Religious and Fluvial Procession along the Cagayan de Oro River on August 28 will prioritize solemnity this year, foregoing competition to honor the spiritual aspect of the event.
