On September 14, the Bukidnon State University Gymnasium buzzed with more than just crowds. It hosted the rollout of President Marcos Jr.'s Handog ng Pangulo program, which handed out P3.55 million to 1,777 low-income workers and transport drivers across Malaybalay City.
Meanwhile, DSWD Field Office X spearheaded the effort through UPLIFT, a program built to cushion vulnerable households against today's rising costs.
Each recipient walked away with P2,000. That might sound modest, but for near-poor families, it's the difference between staying afloat and slipping below the poverty line.
According to Regional Director Glofelia J. Uayan, the grant works as a safety net, instantly easing pressure on food, fuel, and transport budgets so families don't skip meals or turn to costly loans.
This payout wasn't a standalone event. Instead, it joined a broader, multi-agency service caravan sweeping across Northern Mindanao, bringing government services closer to the people.
Uayan also noted that the cash injection ripples outward, keeping households spending on basic goods and transport, which in turn boosts local commerce.
Looking ahead, DSWD-10 promises to keep expanding its reach to rural communities.
