In a heartwarming ceremony, the city came together under the leadership of Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy to commemorate the 14th anniversary of Typhoon Sendong. This event, deeply rooted in remembrance, offered a meaningful tribute to the thousands of victims who lost their lives during this tragic calamity. The day began with a solemn Mass held at the St. Augustine Cathedral, attended by city officials and employees who gathered to reflect on the past and honor those affected.

As the sun rose, the atmosphere was filled with both sorrow and hope. Prior to the Mass, a Santos Misa took place at the City Memorial Park. This event marked a significant moment, as it was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony for over 500 unidentified bodies buried there. City hall representatives, guided by the City Local Environment Office, participated in this poignant act of remembrance, displaying unity and compassion toward those who have suffered.

A Call to Remember and Reflect

The significance of this occasion lies not only in remembrance but also in highlighting the importance of community resilience. Mayor Uy emphasized the need to come together as one, to support those still healing from the wounds of the past. Such reflections evoke a strong sense of community, reminding all attendees of the indomitable human spirit that perseveres even in the face of disaster.

As the day unfolded, the poignant events served as a reminder to cherish life and promote safety measures to prevent future tragedies. It is crucial for communities to engage in dialogue about preparedness and resilience. By doing so, we honor the memories of those lost while fostering a safe environment for future generations. Through these solemn observances, the bond within the community grows stronger, ensuring that the memories live on.
