MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — The Misamis Occidental delegation snatched the overall title in the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Meet 2026, grabbing a massive 91 gold, 86 silver, and 89 bronze medals.
One Fierce Team, Total Domination
The regional meet rocked Bukidnon from March 19 to 24. Competing under the One Asenso MisOcc banner, these athletes also grabbed second runner-up in the elementary division plus awards in secondary billeting, demo sports, and para games. Governor Henry S. Oaminal rallied them as one unified squad. “We are no longer competing with each other. So, we are coming here as one team, Misamisnon!” he declared.
Plus, the One Asenso Misamis Occidental team leveled up participation big time. Oaminal boosted incentives this year to P30,000 for bronze, P40,000 for silver, and P75,000 for gold. The program kicked off in 2024 and gets full backing from Ozamiz City, Oroquieta City, Tangub City, and the provincial government.
Teen Warrior's Epic Sacrifice Pays Off
Fifteen-year-old wrestler Princess Grace Dado from Aloran Trade High School stunned everyone with gold in the cadet 44-kg girls category. She trained relentlessly and strictly controlled her weight. “Dako kayo akong kalipay og pangandoy pud nako nga makuha gyud ang gold kay gusto nako nga mu abot gyud og Palaro,” she beamed. For months, the squad lived on eggs just to hit that exact 44kg mark, shedding tears and building iron discipline to dodge disqualification.
She also thanked Governor Oaminal for always watching over the future of young athletes. The Department of Education-10 highlighted how the Bukidnon meet united student-athletes from across the region for athletic excellence, unity, and unbreakable resilience.
