Time to Lead... Time to Go Leadless!

A New Chapter in Cardiac Care

Big news out of Northern Mindanao! Capitol University Medical Center (CUMC) just completed its first successful leadless pacemaker insertion, and it's a genuine milestone for local heart care.
This isn't just another procedure — it's a leap forward. Patients now have access to technology once reserved for major metro hospitals.
What Exactly Is a Leadless Pacemaker?

So, what makes this device special? Picture something roughly the size of a large vitamin capsule, delivered through a catheter in the leg and placed directly inside the heart. No chest incisions, no traditional wires.

Consequently, patients may face a lower risk of lead-related complications, infections, and blood clots. Plus, there's no visible scarring or pacemaker bump, and recovery can be quicker with fewer activity restrictions.

The Team Behind the Milestone

The procedure was led by the CUMC Catheterization Laboratory Team, guided by electrophysiologists Dr. Marie Kirk Maramara, Dr. Jannah Lee Tarranza, and Dr. Ahliah Ibrahim.

Their expertise made this first-of-its-kind procedure possible for the region.

Bringing Innovation Closer to Home

At CUMC, we're committed to advancing healthcare through innovation, bringing safer, modern cardiac care closer to home.

Ultimately, it's about giving patients better options, right where they live.
