A Simple Handover, A Bigger Story
Fifty chairs might not sound like headline news. But when they arrive at East City Central School in Barangay Lapasan, straight from McDonald's restaurants, the story changes. These aren't ordinary chairs, though — they're survivors, repurposed and ready for a second life in the classroom.
The handover happened during the National Teachers' Month kickoff on Sept. 5, and it wasn't just symbolic. Teachers and learners now have real seats to use, thanks to McDonald's Philippines' ReClassified program.
Recycling With a Lesson Attached
DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara pointed out something important: the initiative isn't only about furniture. It's about teaching kids that waste doesn't have to be wasted. Recycled materials can become something useful again.
Meanwhile, McDonald's Managing Director Margot Torres said the partnership deepened the company's understanding of what schools truly need.
Small Steps, Big Numbers
So far, nearly 1,000 furniture pieces have reached classrooms nationwide, helping over 5,500 students. That's not a coincidence — it's consistent effort.
By 2027, McDonald's aims to deliver 1,500 ReClassified chairs. One chair at a time, old furniture keeps finding new classrooms to call home.
