The Philippine Coast Guard just flipped the switch on something big. Through Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao, they inaugurated the Macajalar Bay Vessel Traffic Management System, and suddenly one of the region’s busiest waterways gained a powerful new set of eyes.
This state-of-the-art VTMS actively tracks vessels in real time, sharpens maritime domain awareness, speeds up emergency response, and keeps traffic flowing safely and smoothly.
Meanwhile, senior leaders including VADM Edgar L. Ybañez, PHIVIDEC’s Atty. Joseph Donato J. Bernedo, and fellow flag officers stood together to mark the moment. Their presence underscores a shared push for stronger safety, security, and economic growth across Northern Mindanao.
As the Coast Guard modernizes under the Bagong Pilipinas vision, this system proves innovation and partnership can protect lives, safeguard our seas, and steer us toward a smarter, more resilient maritime future.
