On June 4, 2024, a monumental event took place in Brgy. Lison Valley, Pagadian City. Mayor Sammy Co, along with distinguished city officials and representatives from the National Housing Authority (NHA), ceremoniously handed over the titles of 100 housing units to the indigenous people (IPs) of Lison Valley. This significant event is part of one of the major housing projects spearheaded by the City Government of Pagadian under the astute leadership of Mayor Sammy Co.

The initiative underscores the administration's commitment to uplift the living conditions of its indigenous populace. This landmark occasion was witnessed by numerous dignitaries, including City Councilor Priscilla “Doctora Dicky” Fernandez, former City Councilor Glavys Gavenia, and former City Councilor Dodong Cagampang. The event was further graced by city government and NHA personnel, Barangay officials, and the local residents of Brgy. Lison Valley.

Mayor Sammy Co’s administration has always been driven by the vision of enhancing the lives of the city’s residents, particularly the indigenous communities. The turn-over ceremony of the housing units is a testament to the mayor’s unwavering commitment to this cause. The 100 families who received their titles now have a place they can call home, a sanctuary where they can thrive and prosper.

In Mayor Co’s words, this project is not merely about providing shelter but about restoring dignity and offering hope. The administration recognizes the unique challenges faced by the IPs and has, therefore, tailored the housing project to meet their specific needs. The houses are not just structures but symbols of a brighter future, filled with opportunities for growth and development.

The collaboration between the City Government of Pagadian and the National Housing Authority has been instrumental in the successful implementation of this housing project. The NHA's expertise in housing development, coupled with the city's vision, has resulted in a well-planned and executed project. This partnership exemplifies how synergistic efforts can lead to remarkable outcomes, benefiting the community at large.

The NHA has ensured that the housing units are built to high standards, providing a safe and comfortable living environment for the residents. The authority’s involvement has also facilitated the smooth transition of the IPs into their new homes, ensuring that they are well-equipped to settle into this new phase of their lives. This collaborative effort has set a precedent for future projects, highlighting the importance of joint ventures in achieving community development goals.

The indigenous people of Lison Valley have long awaited this day. The joy and gratitude expressed by the IPs during the turn-over ceremony were palpable. For many, this is the first time they have owned a house and lot, a milestone that marks a new chapter in their lives. The administration of Mayor Sammy Co has indeed made a profound impact on the community, providing them with not just homes but also hope and stability.

Living in a secure environment will undoubtedly have far-reaching effects on the IPs. With a stable home, children can focus on their education, adults can pursue livelihood opportunities, and families can lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. The positive ripple effects of this housing project will be felt for generations, fostering a more resilient and empowered indigenous community.

The turn-over ceremony on June 4, 2024, at Brgy. Lison Valley is a historic moment for the indigenous people of Pagadian City. Mayor Sammy Co, along with the support of the National Housing Authority and other city officials, has laid the foundation for a brighter future for the IPs. This housing project is a shining example of what can be achieved through visionary leadership, collaborative efforts, and a deep commitment to community welfare.

As we look to the future, it is essential to continue supporting such initiatives that aim to uplift the marginalized sectors of our society. The success of this housing project serves as an inspiration and a reminder of the transformative power of collective action.
