Hey there, fellow road trip enthusiasts and infrastructure buffs! Buckle up because we're about to take a ride through the exciting developments happening in Misamis Occidental. If you haven't heard yet, there's a massive project underway that's set to transform the way we travel, trade, and even relax in this picturesque part of the Philippines. Let's dive into the details of the new access roads leading to the Panguil Bay Bridge, a project that's as ambitious as it is promising.

First things first, let's give a shoutout to Gov. Henry S. Oaminal and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers who are the masterminds behind this infrastructure marvel. On a bright Saturday, October 26, they geared up to inspect the ongoing construction of these new access roads. The roads stretch through the coastal areas and diversion roads of Malaubang and Pulot in Ozamiz City, right up to San Apo and Maloro in Tangub City.

This isn't just any road project—it's a vital artery for the economy and growth of Misamis Occidental. Imagine this: a seamless connection between Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, with direct access to Ozamiz Port via the Panguil Bay Bridge. It's like a dream come true for anyone who's ever been stuck in traffic or wished for a faster way to transport goods.

Now, let's talk numbers. Gov. Oaminal estimates that this project will require a whopping 1 billion pesos in funding. It's a hefty price tag, but one that's perfectly aligned with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos' infrastructure program and Congress Speaker Martin Romualdez's initiatives to boost rural and economic development. They're pulling out all the stops to secure funding for 2025, aiming to speed up the project's completion, especially now that the bridge is ready to make its debut.

The project is strategically divided into multiple phases—Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, and Phase 4—to ensure that every inch of the road is crafted to perfection. This meticulous planning means that when all is said and done, the roads will effortlessly connect to Barangay Pulot, creating a network that’s not only efficient but also a joy to travel.

Okay, let's shift gears and talk about what these roads mean for the everyday folks in Misamis Occidental. For starters, they promise to revolutionize the way goods are transported from Ozamiz Port. No more city center traffic jams—just smooth, speedy deliveries that keep the shelves stocked and businesses booming. Motorists and cargo trucks alike can look forward to a significant reduction in travel time, thanks to the Panguil Bay Bridge acting as a conduit for swift transit.

But wait, there's more! These roads aren't just about commerce. They're also paving the way for livelihood development and tourism. Picture this: greater access to the region's stunning beaches and coastal attractions. Whether you're a local entrepreneur or a sun-seeking traveler, these roads are set to be a game-changer.

At the heart of this project is a vision to foster stronger connections—not just between roads and bridges, but between communities and regions. With the Panguil Bay Bridge serving as a vital link, Misamis Occidental is poised to become a hub of activity, connecting Mindanao and the Visayas like never before.

Gov. Oaminal, alongside Rep. Ando Oaminal, is championing the continued expansion of these coastal routes. Their advocacy ensures that even the most remote communities along the coast will enjoy improved access and all the benefits that come with it. Coordination between the DPWH and the province of Misamis Occidental is ongoing, ensuring that everything stays on track and meets the needs of the provincial population.

So, there you have it—the lowdown on Misamis Occidental's ambitious road project. Whether you're a local resident, a business owner, or just someone who loves a good road trip, these new access roads to the Panguil Bay Bridge are set to make a world of difference. Keep your eyes peeled and your engines ready, because the future of travel in Misamis Occidental is just around the corner!

When opportunity knocks, you lace up your gloves and answer the call. That’s exactly what the Cagayan de Oro City Amateur Boxing Team did when they packed their gear and headed to the International School Sport Federation (ISF) tournament in Bahrain. And boy, did they deliver a knockout performance! The team returned home with a commendable haul: 1 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. This isn’t just a story of victory; it’s a tale of grit, teamwork, and the spirit of sportsmanship.

Let’s step into the ring and look at how this journey began. Eight boxers from the Cagayan de Oro City, all aged between 15 and 18, embarked on their first international boxing competition. It was a moment of pride and anticipation, not just for the athletes, but also for their coach, Elmer Pamisa. With the support of City Mayor Klarex Uy and the City Sports Development Office led by Allby Cris Waga, the team was well-prepared to take on the best in the world.

The ISF tournament in Bahrain was no walk in the park. Competing against seasoned fighters from countries like Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Brazil, the CDO team was undoubtedly facing a David vs. Goliath scenario. But with great challenges come great opportunities. The young pugilists embraced the chance to learn, grow, and showcase their talent on an international stage.

At the heart of this triumphant tale is Christian Jake Pores, who clinched the lone gold medal in the 48 kgs category. His victory was the crowning glory of the team’s performance, highlighting his exceptional skill and determination. Meanwhile, silver medals were bagged by Shairylle Pores (women’s 46 kgs), Ever Joy Nuez (women’s 48 kgs), John Michael Estorba (52 kgs), and Joel Rosas Jr. (54 kgs). These fighters exhibited not only physical prowess but also strategic acumen in the ring.

And let’s not forget the bronze medalists: Ivan Llaban (46 kgs), Sherwin Villanueva (51 kgs), and Argie Reyes (57 kgs). Their performances were nothing short of inspiring, proving that sheer will and perseverance can take you far. Each punch they threw was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Behind every successful athlete is a coach who believes in them, and for the CDO boxing team, that coach is Elmer Pamisa. Along with coach Fernie Lou Abing, they spent countless hours training and mentoring these young athletes. Their guidance was instrumental in shaping the boxers’ skills and mental toughness. But it wasn't just about the technicalities. The coaches instilled in their team the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and resilience, which are essential both inside and outside the ring.

Moreover, the unwavering support from City Mayor Klarex Uy and the City Sports Development Office played a crucial role in this success story. Their commitment to nurturing young talent has set a precedent for future generations of athletes. This victory is as much theirs as it is the athletes’.

So, what does this victory mean for the CDO boxing team and the community? It’s more than just medals and accolades. It’s about putting Cagayan de Oro City on the map in the world of sports. It’s about inspiring young athletes to dream big and work hard. This triumph is a beacon of hope and a reminder that with the right mix of talent, support, and determination, anything is possible.

The CDO boxing team’s success in Bahrain is a story that will be told for years to come. It’s a testament to the power of dreams and the relentless pursuit of excellence. As they return home with their heads held high, they carry with them not just the weight of their medals, but the pride of an entire city. Here's to more punches, more victories, and more stories of triumph from these young warriors!
